Transfer Credits to ҹèÊÓƵ

Have you attended any other college(s)? We'd like to give you credit for your work!

In order to award you credit, ҹèÊÓƵ will need to receive official academic transcripts. Please send us your college transcripts if any of the following are true:

  • You wish to have previous college work evaluated for credit at ҹèÊÓƵ.
  • You are a veteran and wish to apply for educational benefits.
  • You are seeking admission to a limited enrollment program such as Health Occupations or the Great Lakes Maritime Academy.

Official academic transcripts must be mailed directly from former college(s) to the ҹèÊÓƵ Admissions Office at 1701 E Front Street, Traverse City, MI 49686. ҹèÊÓƵ also accepts official electronic transcripts sent directly to admissions@nmc.edu.

Guidelines for Transferring Credits to ҹèÊÓƵ

Students who have completed courses at other colleges or universities must request that an official transcript be sent to the ҹèÊÓƵ Admissions office. All transcripts must be sent directly from the transferring institution to ҹèÊÓƵ.

Rules Regarding Transfer of Credits

  • Only credits granted by schools accredited by regionally accredited associations will be considered for transfer to ҹèÊÓƵ, to ensure the College or University has met the minimum standards set by the higher education industry:
    • Higher Learning Commission ()
    • Middle States Commission on Higher Education ()
    • New England Commission of Higher Education ()
    • Northwest Commission on College and Universities ()
    • Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges ()
    • WASC Senior College and University Commission ()
    • Western Association of Schools and Colleges, Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges ()
  • To help our students succeed in their coursework, credits, not grades, are transferred for 2.0 (C, not C-) or better courses. Satisfactory (S) or Pass (P) grades must be indicated on the transcript guide as a 2.0 (C, not C-) or better. Courses will be accepted for equivalent ҹèÊÓƵ courses or elective credit. Please be aware we cannot make exceptions to this policy, including semesters affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Developmental courses successfully passed with a C or better will be accepted for equivalencies but no credit will be transferred.
  • Military Service School credit may be awarded where such credit is applicable to the student’s declared program of study. Evaluations are consistent with the American Council on Education’s Guide to the Evaluation of Education Experiences in the Armed Forces recommendations.
  • Prior education received at an institution outside the United States must be evaluated by a credential evaluation service such as ECE (Educational Credential Evaluators)- or WES (World Education Services)- . Please be prepared to pay $150-300 for this service and begin the process when you apply to ҹèÊÓƵ as it can take 2-6 months to complete.
  • ҹèÊÓƵ will recognize credits through an official transcript sent directly from:
  • Students must earn the following number of semester credit hours at ҹèÊÓƵ for the following ҹèÊÓƵ degrees:
    • 30 semester hours for a Bachelor of Science
    • 16 semester hours for an Associate Degree in Nursing
    • 15 semester hours for all other Associate Degrees
    • 12 semester hours for a Level 3 Certificate
    • 8 semester hours for a Level 1 or 2 Certificate
    • One ҹèÊÓƵ course must be taken for the MTA Stamp
  • ҹèÊÓƵ will not replace a student’s grade recorded for a course taken at ҹèÊÓƵ with a grade from an equivalent course taken by the student at another institution and transferred back to ҹèÊÓƵ.
  • Quarter credits or other units of credit transferred in will be converted to semester credits. To convert quarter hours, multiply the quarter hours by 2/3 to equate to semester hours. The converted quarter hours must equal the required semester credits for the purpose of satisfying graduation requirements.
